Bloodborne Pathogens

How are BBPs NOT spread?

Casual contact like hugging, shaking hands, swimming pools, doorknobs, toilet seats and sharing food is generally not considered routes for transmitting BBPs.

HOWEVER THERE ARE 2 IMPORTANT POINTS!:
1. A person with a light bleeding nose can sneeze. Sharing  food (biting from the same item) or using someone else's toothbrush may contain blood from bleeding gums. This will still require the recipient to have non-intact skin or contact with mucous membranes.
2. While some of these circumstances may not tranmsit BBPs, you should exercise caution for potential of the Flu, a cold or other types of biological harm to humans.

Intact skin provides the body with good protection. BBPs will NOT "soak through" normal intact skin.
